The British transfer record was smashed twice yesterday when Fernando Torres joined Chelsea and Andy Carroll signed for Liverpool as the window closed in an avalanche of activity.
Between them the two clubs spent a record £134 million in just one day. Chelsea finally signed Torres for a deal that could ultimately be worth £50 million, and Benfica’s David Luiz for £25 million, while Liverpool spent a remarkable £36 million on Carroll and £23 million on Luis Suárez.
Fernando Torres believes he can fulfil his dream of winning the Champions League after completing his move to Chelsea from Liverpool.
The former Atletico Madrid forward said: “I am a big fan of all of the Chelsea strikers.
“When I was very young I remember Anelka was playing for Arsenal. It’s the kind of football I like to play.
